Baron de Sigognac Bas-Armagnac 10 Ans d’Âge Excellence

The eponymous Baron de Sigognac, who majestically lends his name to our craft collection of hand-made Armagnacs, is a personage shrouded in mystery and legend:

In Armagnac, legend would have it that, one day long ago, Baron de Sigognac took all the traditional clocks out of his ageing cellars. Fascinated by the mystery surrounding how Armagnac ages, he had fashioned, some very strange timepieces…

On these new clocks, the face had ten divisions instead of twelve.

The seconds had become years, the big hand moved only once a decade and the hour hand marked the centuries.

Baron de Sigognac had located the core of the mystery that is Armagnac…

The legend continues that, with time, Baron de Sigognac came to trust only his palate for telling the age of an Armagnac.

Henceforth, the clocks were left unwound.

Baron de Sigognac had, himself, become the chronometric memory of his Armagnacs.

Today, Château de Bordeneuve still upholds these traditional values and methods, relying on patience and the Cellar-Master’s tasting skills to judge the maturity of our Bas-Armagnacs, tucked up in French oak barrels in our medieval cellars at the Domain.

Baron de Sigognac 10 Ans d’Âge Excellence is no exception to this skillset.

A carefully hand-blended marriage of Ugni Banc and Baco grape distillations, the very youngest of which has spent a minimum of ten years under oak in the cellars, it is a Bas-Armagnac of superlative quality and rich character.

Deep amber in colour with mahogany highlights, it shows a fine nose, marked by notes of vanilla, cinnamon and candied oranges.

Oodles of roundness on the palate is underpinned by floral, woody and spicey tones which harmonise voluptuously with a long and pleasing finish of grilled almonds, vanilla, and sugared apricots.

Baron de Sigognac is distributed by Bordeneuve Châteaux & Collections, the commercial arm of Château de Bordeneuve and is widely available in specialist cellar outlets and department stores in over 45 countries around the globe
